Pixwell Gooseberry
General Information
Pixwell Gooseberry is a nice fruiting shrub. It is a medium sized plant, growing upwards of 4 feet tall. It grows in an overall rounded fashion, with a vigorous growth rate. Nice deep green foliage gives the plant a good appearance throughout the growing season. Reddish-green flowers in the early springtime, but do not add a great deal of ornamental appeal. Abundant, medium to large berries follow the flowers. They ripen to a light pink color, typically in July. The berries are tart and are excellent for a variety of baking and dessert uses. This variety is said to have much fewer thorns than the average gooseberry plant.
Additional Information
Ribes ‘Pixwell’ grows to a height of 3 to 4 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 6. Pixwell can be grown in full to partial sunlight. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils. Has greater resistance to powdery mildew, but it still proves to be an issue in humid climates.
